
You can have a Religious or a Civil Wedding. In Italy the marriage will have legal value and will be lawfully binding.However you can opt for a symbolic wedding which can be staged against any backdrop you want. No legal value and no particular document is required for a symbolic wedding.The requirements for a civil or religious wedding vary depending on the particular circumstances (nationality, marital status, date of wedding….). We will support you in streamlining the complete paperwork.
Once you have the necessary documents you can forward them to us by fax or by express mail and we will see to all of procedures required in Italy. What follows is a list of the documents required to get married in Italy.
CIVIL WEDDING:
• Passport
• NULLA OSTA issued by the foreign Embassy or Consulate in Italy (only written in Italian) or by the deputy authority in the foreign country (must be translated and legalized by the impediment to marry in taly nd about the civil state of the foreign citizen (bachelor, spinster, widow, divorced). This document is valid only in Italian.
• An extract from birth registration of complete names of father and mother, or instead a complete copy of birth registration. If issued in International Form this document doesn’t need translation.It is not difficult to obtain these certificates however you must bean in mind that the validity term for these document is only for three months.To be legally valid, a civil wedding must be celebrated in the city’s town hall by the Mayor or a Civil State official and translated by an interpreter in the Bride&Groom’s language. It is also necessary the presence of two witnesses….we can provide them if necessary.
RELIGIOUS WEDDINGS:
In case you are asking for a Roman Catholic rite, you must provide the original copy of your civil wedding certificate.In case you wish to celebrate both, civil and catholic rites, you must provide the Italian Curia with the following documents, in addition to what specified for civil weddings.
• Letter from your Parish Bishop attesting that you have no impediment to get married in the chosen Church at the date required and that you have attended the Pre-Cana classes.
• Certificates of baptism, first communion and confirmation.
